Now Hiring – Props Designer / Coordinator – The Tempest
The Southern Shakespeare Company is seeking a Props Designer/Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director and Design Team to create a cohesive, imaginative props design that supports the magical world of The Tempest.
- Source, build, adapt, and maintain all hand props, set props, and special magical items required for the production.
- Provide rehearsal props early in the process to support staging needs.
- Ensure props are durable, transportable, and functional for repeated outdoor performances.
- Oversee prop storage, transportation, set-up, and strike during the run of the show.
- Work within a designated budget and maintain accurate records of purchases.
Qualifications:
- Prior props design/build experience in theatre (Shakespeare experience a plus).
- Creativity, resourcefulness, and the ability to balance artistry with practicality.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to problem-solve in the unique environment of outdoor theatre.
Dates:
- Rehearsals: January & early February 2026
- Tech Week: February 14 – 18, 2026
- Performances: February 19–22, 2026 (Cascades Park, Tallahassee, FL)
Compensation: Fee based on experience and availability.

Now Hiring – 2026 Festival Coordinator
Seasonal Part-time Position
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Festival Coordinator serves as the primary logistical orchestrator for the Free Shakespeare in the Park Festival, responsible for comprehensive event management, vendor coordination, and on-site operational execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Production & Coordination
– Develop and implement comprehensive event strategies for festival activations, including VIP experiences, sponsor engagement zones, family programming, and welcome infrastructure
– Manage full vendor lifecycle, from initial procurement through on-site management and post-event reconciliation
– Serve as primary on-site event operations manager during festival performances • Operational Management
– Execute detailed site layout and infrastructure planning
– Manage vendor check-in, credential distribution, and compliance protocols
– Oversee setup and teardown of all festival special event spaces, signage, and temporary structures
Administrative Responsibilities
– Attend Festival Planning Committee and production meetings
– Manage inbound vendor and community organization communication
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills
– Proven event production experience
– Advanced project management capabilities with demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder events
– Exceptional interpersonal communication and stakeholder engagement skills
– Strong organizational and logistical planning expertise
– Ability to perform physical labor, including heavy lifting and extended periods of standing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
– Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
– Extended periods of standing and walking
– Working in variable outdoor conditions

Now Hiring – Stage Manager for A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Southern Shakespeare Company seeks a Stage Manager for our upcoming immersive/environmental production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Tallahassee Museum. This is a unique opportunity to stage manage a Shakespearean classic in an historic, outdoor setting where the audience will journey through the environment along with the play.
Performance Dates:

April 30 – May 2, 2026

May 7 – 9, 2026
Rehearsals: Begin in March; evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
The Stage Manager will be the organizational and communication hub of the production. Duties include:

Coordinating and tracking rehearsals, tech, and performances across multiple outdoor locations.

Maintaining accurate rehearsal/performance reports and communicating with the director, cast, and crew.
-
Running all rehearsals: calling breaks, taking blocking notes, maintaining order and schedule.
-
Preparing the prompt book and calling all technical/lighting/sound cues during performance.
-
Managing scene shifts, actor traffic, and audience flow in an environmental setting.
-
Leading the “backstage” team and ensuring safety and professionalism throughout the process.
-
Being proactive, flexible, and resourceful in an outdoor, non-traditional theatrical environment.
Qualifications:
-
Prior stage management experience strongly preferred.

Comfort working in outdoor/immersive settings.
-
Strong organizational and communication skills.
-
Ability to problem-solve calmly under pressure.
-
Familiarity with Shakespeare is a plus but not required.
Compensation: This is a paid position; stipend commensurate with experience.
